These guidelines have been prepared to assist providers of ContinuingEducation Courses. Once a course isapproved, the instructor(s) must teach the course substantially in the samemanner represented to the Board in the outline. I. Instructional Strategies Instructional strategies are used to increase the effectiveness of the courseinstruction. The purpose of this section is to provide the potential providerwith ideas and possible alternatives for instructional strategies. Utilizing avariety of instructional strategies can make a course more interesting and maybetter hold the attention of the student. Generally, students retain more of the information presented if they actuallyapply the information through problem-solving activities. Combining lecture withvisual aids may also increase the effectiveness of instruction. A. Lecture We encourage instructors to moveaway from the straight lecture format, as there is some question as to itseffectiveness as an instructional strategy. If certain parts of the course aredesigned around the lecture format, there are ways in which to improve thequality of the lecture. Being well prepared and organized is essential forsuccessful delivery Make use of variety and surprisein order to keep the students' attention. A student who is asleep has littleopportunity to learn.
