ALTA VISION CASE STUDY #3

Dianmarka hotelesMassachusetts Interactive Media Council

As the leading trade organization for businesses and individuals interested in leveraging Internet-based technologies, the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council (MIMC) was faced with several challenges when planning events.  With more than 2,500 members, a small downtown Boston meeting site, and some members who were only interested in content, not networking, MIMC realized they needed to add value to their events.

Bill McGowan, MIMC member and President of Alta Vision, suggested webcasting to Director of Marketing Kiki Mills as a way of complementing  their onsite events and perhaps providing a source of revenue for this non-profit organization.  Kikis initial concerns were that she didnt want to cannibalize their onsite events and, more importantly, MIMC currently has no online infrastructure to support a webcast.

Siena accommodationA webcast, which allows people to participate in live events via streaming video and audio from their computers, is the perfect solution for a group like MIMC who wants to effectively reach a large audience, said Bill.  In addition to the live online event, people can later view the presentation on-demand through the corporate web site, or it can be downloaded to CD for marketing purposes.

Bill convinced Kiki to test Alta Visions capabilities as a multi-media production company for MIMCs next quarterly event, and decide from there if future webcast events are worth the effort.  This was in October, 2002, and the webcast is now an ongoing feature of MIMCs quarterly technology and financial services series, but not without a learning curve.

MIMC learned from experience, that in order to have a successful online event, you must give potential participants plenty of notice to register, ensure they read the instructions for logging on and checking Internet compatibility, and have PowerPoint presentations for each speaker to engage the audience.   But the technology and Alta Vision met the challenge and MIMC now has a communications tool relevant to their organization interactive media.

Were very bullish on continuing to webcast our events and are seeing signs that it can grow, said Kiki.  We can see many opportunities for grabbing new eyeballs and converting them into members.  The technology also removes the barrier members sometimes have of not being able to attend events.

MIMC is a professional trade organization that accelerates professional and business development opportunities for those interested in leveraging Internet-based technologies.  MIMC conducts more than 50 events per year including panel discussions, a major awards program and networking opportunities for members and the extended community.  For more information, call 617-227-2822 or visit www.mimc.org.
