Baits are ideal for an IPM program in the home because they can be usedin tamper resistant containers and target specific pests. It is important to identify the species when using baits, especially withants because different species prefer different foods. Sprays and dusts can often be applied to inaccessible areas where pestshide thereby lowering the chance of human contact. If you use pesticides to control a pest problem, you shouldbe aware that pesticides also represent a potential risk to groundwater, to theenvironment, to wildlife and to our health. This risk is increased when apesticide is incorrectly used, improperly stored or carelessly discarded. Allpesticides are potentially dangerous. Safe pesticide use involves a combinationof knowledge, common sense and the ability to follow label directions. Unsafeuse of a pesticide can result in harm to you, your family members, your pets orneighbors or damage to desirable plants. 
Injuries from pesticide applications are preventable. Before applying pesticides, always: Read product labels carefully, Follow all safety precautions, Use required proper protective clothing, Store unused pesticides properly, Dispose of used containers properly. Farm pesticide properly used outdoors are broken down by sunlight, rain, andbacteria. Indoors, farm pesticidesmay last for years. You, yourfamily, and pets may be harmed by pesticides misused indoors by swallowing,breathing, or touching pesticides with your skin.  When used indoors, farm pesticides can cause serious healthproblems including: Dizziness Blurred vision Headaches Difficulty breathing Confusion and memory loss Weakness and poor coordination Vomiting and diarrhea Death It is also against the law to misuse pesticides. You must follow the label directions and never use a pesticide that doesnot have label directions.
